Meet Matt - Builder of the Month Father's Day Edition

Today, we are featuring Matt Letchworth from Missouri. Matt has two kids and his youngest son enjoys tagging along for his RC adventures. We first met Matt when he had a layover in Arizona and wondered if he could pick up a few products from us while he was there. He was rushing to catch his flight so we met him at a CVS near the airport to deliver his order!

Boom:
Can you tell us about yourself and how you got into the hobby?

Matt:
I got into R/Cs around 2017. I bought a Stampede 4x4, which was fun for a while. Then I discovered the R/C crawler rabbit hole. I purchased a used Axial 10.2 XJ and loved it. Still have the truck, but I have replaced almost every part.

Boom:
What was the hardest thing about being a dad, and what surprised you?

Matt:
The hardest thing about being a dad is balancing unconditional love and discipline/respect. I struggle with it every day, and the most surprising thing about being a dad was how natural it was in the beginning. I held my fragile newborn sons and immediately fell in love with them.

Boom:
What Boom Racing products do you have experience with? Share some insights about what you like about them.

Matt :
Probuild wide 1.9 wheels on my TRX6. BRX01 Chassis kit with R/C4WD Tacoma Lexan body. I have purchased BRX02 Wagon/Leaf kit and BRX01 Limited but haven’t started on them yet. I've tried many other Boom Racing upgrade parts—tires, winch, steering knuckles, etc.

Boom:
What are your favorite R/C moments with your dad/children?

Matt:
I haven’t done R/Cs with my dad, but I have enjoyed meeting other guys’ dads on the trail. It seems like dudes are always talking about how special their dads were, not in a competitive way, but in a proud way. My youngest son is like me: reserved, thoughtful, attention deficit, and responds to sensory stimulation. He likes R/Cs and has joined me on some epic crawls. Always a blast.

Boom:
Who or what inspires you in the hobby?

Matt:
I am most inspired by the dads I see. The trail works so hard to help their kids understand and love the R/C hobby as much as we all do. The guys that organize crawling events inspire me. Creativity inspires me.

Boom:
Do you have any tips or advice for others in the hobby?

Matt:
Be unique, be different. Be creative and weird. Dream big, act small. Understanding what is essential in life is not crawlers, bashers, or time on a trail. The meaning of life is to protect and preserve life. Things that have a soul. People that pick up trash on the trail inspire the hell out of me.
