Boom Racing XRMod PHAT Axle Front & Rear

7938 Views

Ready-To-Go ultra heavy-weight XRMod PHAT axle package, this axle set will give you the ultimate performance you're looking for in any crawler.

The XRMod system gives you over 45 degree steering and the PHAT axle is Boom Racing's ultra heavy axle system. Boom Racing combined the best of both worlds to create the XRMod PHAT axle (#BR233035BK front and #BR233035RBK rear). The package includes other performance upgrade options all in one.

It is available for the front and rear axle set, with 4mm stainless steel universal driveshafts and 4mm stainless steel steering links with over 45 degree turning angle. These kits do not come with C-hub, knuckles or lockouts but remember that these use Wraith parts to complete. If you happen to need to replace a driveshaft, they are available separately or even just the axle housing on their own. But believe me they are not that easy to break. It is available in two different colors, red and black or all-silver.

  1. What is XRMOD and why is it so good?

One of the weaknesses of the stock SCX10 is its limited steering ability. XRMOD stands for using Axial's XR10 driveshafts modified on the SCX10 axle. This XRMOD upgrade increases steering angle dramatically to over 45 degrees. This upgrade maximizes steering angle to increase steering radius. The PHAT axle is one of the heaviest axles available on the market. It keeps the rig down when maneuvering and climbing. Add weight at the lowest point of your rig with no additional stress on the drivetrain, hence having the weight where it should be. Also, adding weight to the front of your rig helps on climbing. Axle shafts are stainless steel universals, which is tough and durable with high steering angle. The 4mm stainless steel steering links are top of the line in the market, adding scale realism and toughness to the front of your rig.

  1. Why might I need to consider buying XRMOD compared to a housing or complete axle?

You must use Wraith Knuckles (Axial #AX31316 or #AX80061) and Chubs (Axial #AX80062). That’s all. It can be stock or after market. Boom Racing manufactures the Wraith Knuckles and Chubs as an option upgrade, which you can use as well.

  1. Which rigs work with this?

It works with SCX10 and you can build any custom rig starting with a good set of axles. You must use Wraith Knuckles and Chubs (Axial #AX80062) instead of the SCX10 Knuckles and Chubs. Everything else you have for the SCX10 can use reused on this upgrade. It uses the stock SCX10 bevel gears, spool, locker and input shafts.

  1. Any advantages of this axle over SCX10 II axles?

Even tho the SCX10 II axles are a newer release, the XRMOD PHAT Axle has a few advantages over them. Heavy duty gears. SCX10 II gears are much smaller and cannot withstand as much stress as the original SCX10 gears which are almost twice as large. Going high speed to a halt and then reversing, the smaller gear will break easily in such stress. The XRMod PHAT Axles also weighs much heavier than the SCX10 2 PHAT Axle due to its size.

  1. What parts that ATees carry fit on this?

One of the reasons to go with this upgrade is the abundance of parts for the axle. We stock Axial Wraith knuckles and chubs, and upgraded aluminum Axial knuckles and chubs too. ATees carries other brands of knuckles and chubs as well.

  1. What are the benefits and how does the rig handle when I use this?

The axle has a functioning diff cover, which is more realistic than more. You can easily access the gears inside to add grease. The axle is also designed to slide over any rocks easily. Good luck breaking these axles – they are made to withstand the toughest environments.

  1. Any spare parts I can buy if I break something?

All parts are separately available. The 303 stainless steel drive shafts are stock XR10 drive shaft shortened, you can file down the XR10 drive shafts to fit this axle. The 4mm stainless steel steering links are available separately also.

  1. Compatibility

To complete this axle, in additional to the items provided, you will need SCX10 bevel gears and input shafts, the two bearings inside the SCX10 housing, two bearings of the Wraith housing where the knuckles or lockouts attach to the housing, Wraith knuckles, hubs and rear lockouts. The stock truss can be reused on this axle, which means you can use the stock Y-link, or convert to 4-link setup. All the parts available in the XRMod PHAT Axle package in front or rear are available separately.
